JUSTICE DENIED: A CHINESE COURT UPHELD A-NYA SENGDRA’S FALSE CHARGE AND SENTENCE
A-Nya Sengdra, a Tibetan nomad and environmental activist from eastern Tibet, was sentenced in December 2019 to seven years in prison on false charges of “gathering people to disturb public order”, when he was simply resisting China’s failed Tibet policies and pressing for environmental protections and end to local authority corruption.
On 17 June 2020 the same court threw out A-Nya Sengdra’s appeal for charges against him to be dropped and his sentence quashed.
Detained in September 2018, A-Nya was beaten by Chinese security officers and held for over 14 months without trial. His arrest and detention are a direct response to his peaceful activism as an environmentalist, community leader and anti-corruption activist.
TAKE ACTION –Â Call on the Chinese Minister of Justice and the Provincial Government of Qinghai to immediately free him.
